Who we are

Berenberg was established in 1590, and today we are one of Europe's leading privately owned banks, focusing on the business divisions Wealth and Asset Management, Investment Banking and Corporate Banking. Roughly 1,600 employees carry the Bank's long tradition of success into the future.

We operate as a limited partnership with personally liable partners. The personal liability of the owners ensures a particular independence from corporate interests, stringent risk management, and management continuity. Accountability is our guiding principle.

We can provide investment services across euros and sterling, for private, professional, entrepreneurial and institutional clients in equity focused or multi asset mandates, on an advisory or discretionary basis.

Our longevity is only possible with a business model that focuses on sustainability. We also offer a proven sustainability approach for individual and institutional clients with a dedicated ESG office and PRI signatory governance.

What we do

We are active long term investors with a passion for equity selection. We focus on finding companies which have a competitive edge and strong balance sheets, enabling superior long term growth with defensive qualities. Sustainability is at the core of our philosophy and this is reflected in our investment style.

We believe that specialist roles require specialists, which we employ in each area of advice, portfolio management & construction and ESG, to provide our clients with the best service we can.

We invest for a range of clients from the less experienced, to the professional, the institutional or the entrepreneur.

Discretionary

We offer our multi-asset discretionary strategies across a range of risk profiles in euros or sterling, managed by portfolio managers accustomed to investing in those currencies. We can provide solutions with or without regional bias. Whilst we have a core range, we are also open to bespoking and regularly account for closely held positions, ESG enhancements or other restrictions.

Advisory

Our advisory service is built on Berenberg's strong research offering spanning across more than 25 sectors and 900 stocks globally. We build bespoke multi-asset portfolios with an equities bias in collaboration with our clients reflecting their investment objectives/ knowledge and preferences (e.g. ESG, Thematics). Our advisory clients value the hands-on approach and regular communications backed up by quality research. This service can be combined with execution only services.

Execution Only

As well as servicing retail clientele, we excel with professionals. We offer comprehensive solutions for illiquid and/or unusual trade or business opportunities, interacting with other teams and departments at Berenberg. Some examples include: equity block trades, private placements, bond new issuances, IPO access, DVP (Delivery Versus Payment) accounts, brokerage execution on cash equity, fixed income and illiquid FX currency pair trades, structured products etc.

Strategies

GBP Core £

In our multi asset discretionary investment services, we use both top down asset allocation processes and bottom up security selection as we believe we can add value from actively allocating within the business cycle as well as taking advantage of structural changes within various industries across the business cycle. Our asset allocation process uses long term strategic allocations as a risk guide and shorter term tactical overlays which vary according to market conditions.
